RocketMan was a heavier mechanical effects show than most. The script called for a full-scale, working centrifuge. Early in the design process we contacted NASA to begin our research through the Ames Research Center in California. They were compliant with our requests and generously provided more data than we could use. Some of it is presented here (Figures 5.29 and 5.30) to give the reader a more comprehensive idea of how involved research on a scientifically based film can be. Both NASA documentation, government image research, and our own research images allowed us to cover all bases in order to design the best centrifuge for this Disney comedy.
